Read this book. It was a great novel of good vs. evil, right vs. wrong. So powerful, so moving. Great character development, great language used. I highly recommend it. Warning: may be disturbing if you don’t like graphic scenes.
Do you ever feel like you’re being wronged? Like someone is telling you to do something, but it isn’t right in your heart? Do you obey anyways? Are you afraid of losing the safety and protection that person gives if you don’t obey? Thoreau and Fromm are great essayists on civil disobedience. Fromm presents the idea that history started with an act of disobedicne, the greek and hebrew myths, and will probably end with an act of obedience, like pushing the magic button. It’s interesting how few people think about what orders they are following, the right or wrong in what they are doing, and the instant gratification from certain things, that may not be so right as they feel. Fewer people are listening to their conscience to find answers, they are looking for power, money, and safety. People forget about basic virtues and values. They forget about what’s in their heart for a greedier goal. Unfortunately, this leads to a worse off society. It is sad to see so few people who are truly passionate about their religion. To see so few people who stick to their morals and values. To see so few people not think about what they are doing. To see so few people strive to do good instead of just do.
If you have not already seen this movie, I highly recommend it. Wow. I loved it. It was so powerful and moving. There was not a line or second in that movie that did not have meaning or connect to something else in some way, shape, or form. It puts human nature in a new spectrum and creates so many terrific stories. It shows us how intertwined all human life is. Go see it now!!
On a different note… I love warm weather! It makes me feel happy. It is finally starting to get warm and it feels great and it puts me in such high spirits. I feel like I need less sleep even. I also love the rain. What a soothing sound and smell. And thunder and lightening, how awesome. It makes me happy. I didn’t think I liked spring this much. I guess I do. (Still not as much as summer and fall..) Anyways, I think that weather is so interesting because it has such an affect on people and their moods. I would go to say it is a whole different genre of psychology.
A voice can be one of the most soothing things in the world. Just listening to certain people speak can be relaxing. It doesn’t matter what the person is saying, but the fact that s/he is saying it is the only thing that matters. I could sit and listen to certain people for hours in that relaxed state that I rarely feel. Where my body is just there and I feel good, I feel sleepy, but not tired and not like I want to sleep. Those moments are great.
I feel like exercise is such a wonderful outlet. So many people use food as an outlet and that really bugs me. I have a serious problem with people who let themselves get obese. I am not talking about fluffy or pudgy, but I actually mean overweight people. To me, it is a sign of disrespect to yourself. Why would you ever want to be fat? I don’t understand. It is like being crippled. No offense. But anyways, I just went running the other day and it felt wonderful. I love swimming and running because I feel good about myself afterwards and my body and mind and spirit are all lifted to a higher level. Instead of eating, people should exercise when they are mad.
